Gear Boxes
Author Last Post

Having moved twice in the past three years, I can say I’m glad I saved my boxes. Still, they do take up a lot of space! I like the idea of flattening them if you can, or seeing what the cost might be to buy new boxes when the time comes. I’ll also admit I’m a bit admiring of those who just throw caution to the wind and toss the boxes and don’t worry about the hit to resale value of their gear.

As for now, I’ve just ordered some 5 mil plastic queen sized mattress bags so I can store my boxes in the crawl space under my house. The bags are cheap- around $25, and there’s plenty of room in my crawl space. And boxes aren’t the kind of thing that needs to be accessed often. Good luck!

I've always kept all of mine, even when living in a small apartment. Pretty important for resale shipping. But before you start paying for storage, you might ask the mfr if they will sell you a new box, should you ever need one. Might be cheaper than a storage unit!

I have for some, but the foam is taking up space too :(. I'm in an apartment so space is at a premium.

I'm lucky enough to have space to store my original boxes which are always good to have if/when you ever sell your gear. I'm not sure I'd pay for storage though - can you flatten them to save storage space?

What does everyone do with their empty boxes?

I would like to keep all of mine but space is getting a little tight.

1) Do you store/breakdown your boxes and store in your home?

2) Do you pay for storage?

3) Do you throw away your boxes?

My partner thinks paying for storage for boxes is crazy, but I know some of these custom boxes are recommend for future transport/servicing.
