In Memoriam: Gordon Burwell
Published on 5/1/2024
May 9, 2024 Facebook post
It comes with great sadness to inform everyone that Gordon Burwell Sr. is no longer with us. He was a one of a kind individual that many had strong feelings for (some good, some bad). He had a huge heart and loved his family and those around him intensely. We appreciate everyone who has already reached out to us and offered their condolences. We've been able to experience first hand how Gordon was able to impact so many peoples lives, it was just one of his many admirable qualities. We'll post an update on the celebration of life once we get more things together in the coming weeks. Thanks everyone and God bless.
I received the news of Gordon’s passing on May 9th with deep sadness. Gordon possessed a unique essence that left an indelible mark on everyone he met. Despite claiming he wasn’t an audiophile, his love for music ran profoundly deep. I recall our initial encounter vividly; it was at an audio show in 2014. Standing amidst vintage horn speakers, I struck up a conversation with a gentleman sporting a distinctive barbershop quartet-style mustache—a rarity at such events. Surprised by my standing, he humorously nudged me to sit and listen, assuring me that these horns were different. Intrigued by his charm, I obliged and found myself captivated by their beauty, appreciating them as true works of art. It soon became evident that he wasn’t merely a bystander like myself; he was the mastermind behind these creations. Gordon's designs mirrored his unique sensibilities and reverence for the past, epitomized by his flagship, The Homage, a faithful recreation of the iconic Altec Lansing Voice of the Theater speakers. Following our initial meeting, I stayed in touch with Gordon, witnessing his boundless creativity and passion for hosting engaging events. His gatherings were characterized by a commitment to ensuring everyone had a good time, reflecting his drive to craft speakers that were both aesthetically exquisite and a joy to listen to. Gordon was truly one of a kind, and his absence leaves a palpable void in our community.
